The Seabird’s Cry: The Lives and Loves of Puffins, Gannets and Other Ocean Voyagers by Adam Nicolson (2017)

What a great book!  Nicolson writes beautifully, providing compelling windows into the astonishing lives of 10 species of seabirds that have occupied breeding colonies on Scotland’s Hebrides Islands and ranged far and wide over the world’s oceans for many thousands of years. Their stories are incredible, uplifting, heartbreaking, unforgettable.  In the end, of course, there’s not much good news to tell as each of these species, having survived centuries of human depredations, are now succumbing to the adverse myriad effects of climate change.  Definitely worth reading – one of my recent favourites.
