Wildflowers of Mt. Tzuhalem Ecological Reserve - May 17th

An outing in the Wild Flowers of the Garry Oak Ecosystem

A day with the ancestors, walking amongst the trees of the Garry oak ecosystem, stopping to marvel and learn about the extraordinary variety of flowers of this special and rare habitat.

This outing is a full day event with the Ecological Reserve Wardens: Genevieve Singleton and David Polster.  Genevieve is a lifelong naturalist with amazing knowledge and a keen interest in ethnobotany. Her husband, Dave, is well known around the world for his work in land restoration. He was a board member of the Garry Oak Ecological Restoration Team and an expert on Garry Oak ecosystems. Sadly, Dave has Alzheimer's but he will have much to share with us. They will lead us to two rare Gary Oak Ecosystems: The Mt. Tzuhalem Ecological Reserve, a thin soiled Garry Oak ecosystem and the Somenos Garry Oak Protected Area which is a thick soiled ecosystem.

We will be learning about all aspects of these ecosystems, including the ethnobotany in which Genevieve is an expert!
