NatureKids Explorer Day – Middens, Moss and Mergansers

Hey NatureKids - let’s mix it up with middens, moss, and mergansers at Ruckle Park! How are they connected? We’ll walk in the footsteps of the First Nations’ peoples, looking for evidence of old village sites. With luck, we’ll see all 3 kinds of merganser ducks that hide out in the bays at Ruckle Park through the winter. And, the mosses! They are brilliant green now, and sprouting fruiting bodies. Let’s have a closer look. Using a quadrant, magnifying glasses, graph paper and coloured pencils we will plot the different types and explore how they create wonderful ‘micro-forests’ on the rocks. This is a fun nature exploration open to all NSS members, especially encouraging families. To register and for more information, contact Kathleen at khmaser@shaw.ca.
