Early Morning Birding

Early Morning Birding
Every Monday in September and October, 8:00 a.m.

All members of Nature Salt Spring are welcome to join our cooperative and friendly group of bird enthusiasts. No expertise needed! We all learn from each other while enjoying the peace and beauty of a natural area in the early morning. It’s a great way to start the week!

WHEN: Every Monday in September and October, 8:00 a.m. (May continue into November, depending on enthusiasm, and weather conditions).
LOCATION: (It may vary) Usually, it’s Xwaaqw’um, but Blackburn Lake, Cupples Trail and other island locations also will provide the habitats for birds returning to the island for the winter. (Please contact Kate Reed for location information for each field session.)
BRING:

  • Footwear for wet grasses and muddy pathways.

  • An extra warm layer has paid off many times!

  • Binoculars are essential. (We usually have one or two extra that may be borrowed for the morning).

What if it rains? Each birder makes their own decision as to whether to brave the elements or go back to bed. It is difficult to spot birds when rain is falling on your binoculars! Also, many birds are less active in cold and rainy weather. Most of us will choose to wait until the following Monday, hoping for better conditions.

Contact Kate Reed  katereads@shaw.ca – for more information and/or to join the group ar just the mailing list.
